sentosa -- sucks
Today is just such a difficult and looooong day.
I looked after Marco till 3pm [ or was it an eternity?] and then Terence came back from work.
We packed for our lil Sentosa 'field trip' with the boy - his first to the beach.
But oh my.... have I not been to Sentosa for too long or did our beach just went kaput totally?
It was soooo filthy and the sand was so coarse my feet hurt from walking.
But cos it was just too ridiculous to wear any kind of footwear on the beach [ even flip flops], i persevered. Ouch.
Needless to say, Marco hated it too.
He tried walking around but then knelt down and gestured his feet to me...
If he could speak, it'll be "Mum, why does this sand thing hurt so much?"
It's just ridiculous.
I must have too-vivid memories of Australia's beaches... and forgot Singapore's coarse, pebble/stone/litter-filled sand just don't cut it.
Beach? What beach?
We tried going nearer the waters, where the sand will be wet and, hopefully, smoother.
But the sky was overcast and it was high tide... the waves were pounding in and with others moving inwards, we felt silly playing with our baby at tide's touch.
Half an hour later, we gave up.
Marco was happier watching and playing with the dogs [ loads people brought their dogs today, for some reason] and we left it at that.
After that, we packed up and left.
I feel so sorry Marco's first trip to the beach was sooo lousy.
We caught some bites at some resort's bistro, with the huge Merlion opposite us.
That was nice, and we had some polaroids taken by the staff.
Then headed to Ben & Jerry's for some pick-me-up ice-cream when Marco fell asleep.
Before heading home, glad the day is over.
Sentosa also looked dismal and pathetic for a resort 'fun' island.
Instead, it's now a massive construction site.
The IR had better be worth it.
Honestly, i think it's lost it.
Lost the charm, lost the fun, lost its cool factor.
It's now quintessentially Singapore - manufactured, organised and perpetually in a state of upgrading.
