Cannes Can-can

I feel very let-down by the representatives from our part of the world at Cannes.
Really, with these things they wear to Da Festival,
They totally eclipse Wong Kar-Wai as da jury Chairman.

Someone pls tell Karena Lam looking like an elephant is not in.

And you are either sweet and demure, or bling and cool with oversized shades. Not both. Not at the same time.

Paparazzi-posing tip from Halle Berry - Don't let thou boobs or fab dress be dwarfed by a blond supermodel.

Trash everywhere, even at Cannes.

And a winner finally, the regal and stunning Cate Blanchett.
Remind me again....how beauty is natural, ethereal, real and seemingly effortless.

Tis the day of absolute boredom.
I was so bored i went to borrow a DVD at Videoezy.
Hoping a delightful movie will turn my day delightful.

Which means today is the super rare day i can catch Fann Wong in the serial.
:) Cheesy but i am a fan.

Ciao.

FA Cup Final

Watched the FA Cup final with a bunch of Pool fans last nite.
Well, yes, I can feel the ectasy and appreciate Gerrard's football genius.
What a goal it was.

But alas, heartbreak for West Ham, who really showed how much they wanted it.
The best wins, so... life is brutal.
But I felt Liverpool was kinda lacklustre for almost half the match,
So I really did feel West Ham's grief.

I told Terence i felt sorry for West Ham...
And the idiot went
"Oh, never mind, it's a good experience for them."
What an idiot really.

Had dinner with Terence's entire family yesterday.
Nice affair at this new UE Square seafood restaurant.
His brother brought along the new ang moh girlfren from Poland.
Sweet young thing.
Doesn't look a day above 20.
Pretty but doesn't speak a word to us.
They were all lovey-dovey in front of the parents and us.
Feeding each other, holding hands non-stop etc.
Yes, it was all rather nauseating, sweet as it was.
She just arrived in SG like 2 days ago,
And will be leaving Tuesday, so i can feel the gushes of love there.

But looking at them so caught up in the romance and affections of their new love,
I was quite envious.
I mean, me and terence can hardly be called old birds at the game.
We've been together just 14 months.
But we've lost some of that spontaneity and wild blinding passion.
We didn't share and feed each other ice cream like they did.
We didn't hold hands thru out the dinner and gaze longingly into each other's eyes, oblivious to the world.
Its stupid, but i jus wanted to see what he'd say.
So i did the next stupid thing. I told him how i felt.

And surprise surprise, he didn't say i was silly or stupid or foolish or anyth like dat.
He asked how I wanted him to be more romantic and loving.
Cos he said he is not a romantic person by nature, and he needs to learn these things if it matters so much to me.
What a pleasant surprise.
A reaction I didn't expect at all.
And i was pleased as punch.

And he also said that we have a lot of our own tender loving moments too.
And when he listed them out, with some very very recent ones,
I ended up feeling foolish.
How could i forget so fast?

And what a lovely husband I have.
S0,
If it makes him happy that Liverpool broke West Ham hearts all around,
So be it.

Tsuneyasu Miyamoto, Japan's captain

Ljungberg - Sweden/Arsenal forward

Larsson - Swedish extraordinaire

3 Good reason why i will be tuned in to World Cup 2006.

---------------------
So, I went shopping yesterday.
Went with a galpal who almost bought as much as me!
Mega fun.

Here's the loot:
- Straight dark denims (long-awaited, finally found) for an incredible $32.
Gosh i was prepared to shell out $200. And i found this glorious pair at FEP for such a fraction! Good thing I didn't get the $139 Levi's Square Cut earlier.

- Topshop top. Aiya, tis like a staple of every shopping trip. Woe betide the day I dun manage to find one thing in Topshop to horde home.

- Lingerie. Blush was having such an incredible sale. We practically swept up the small Centrepoint boutique! And my loot? Just $48. Like wow.

- And I just had to go grab myself more expensive lingerie at Tangs too.

I wish i have a digicam to shoot them.
Then tis will be like my virtual wardrobe. Fab.

My next shopping fiesta is on Monday.
Here's the plan:

- Topshop navy blue blouse
- Selfridge white pants
- Charm bracelet from FEP
- True blue jeans @ FEP

The Year of the Dress

BCBG

Marc Jacobs

Simple comfortable wear-anytime-go-anywhere dresses are, of course, the hardest to find.

This one is by Ella Moss -- I really wish this brand can come to Singapore. Pretty prease!

Ok the good news is,
None of the above are available in Singapore.
As usual, I need to find replicas, rip-offs and lookalikes.
Sad is thus.

Fash Mash

So I am gog to talk about fashion.
Cos I jus finished reading a load of fash blogs.
Very educational indeed.

Really wish I can do one for the local SG scene.
But.
It involves the following:
- a good digital camera for nifty fashion finds
- a thick hide of a skin to feature those stuff from shops/frens/strangers
- sound working HTML knowledge
- perhaps paying for a good website address

All of which ain't impossible.
I jus need to decide i really wanna do it.
The alternative is,
Not doing it so totally but jus casually n erratically.
We'll see.

Anyway,
i go on my fashion pilgrimages about once a week.
I love it when i go on my little trip all by myself.
First stop is always Far East Plaza.
Its shop-galore and choc-a-block of great fab finds.
HK actually has "areas" like this. Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui were my faves. I can just live there.
But here in SG, we're confined to just one building FEP.
Sad but alas, i love it.
I figured out the differences between shops in HK vs those in HK.
I am referring to the small independent boutiques, not major labels/established stores.

As a shopper,
I get the feeling the HK owners open these fashion stores for the love of fashion.
You can see it in what they sell, how they display and the selection.
You can see their passion for fashion, and even if u don't buy a thing from them,
U enjoy gog in and sharing and recognising that passion.

People in SG though, open fashion stores to make money.
They cash in on whatever is the latest trend and try to make a pile of it with cheap rip-offs/replicas/lookalikes from Bangkok/Vietnam wherever.
They are all doing the formulaic thing.
Use our strong currency to get/manufacture stuff from cheaper Asian cousins and then sell it at usual retail prices here.
Which is why... quality sux and every shop sells the same stuff.

Except those in Far East Plaza.
Those people love fashion.
It really reminds me of HK a lot.
U get the quirky, the knock-offs, the fashion finds n inspirations fr everywhere.
Its refreshing. Things get updated so fast.
Its Singapore's true fashion capital.
It is where I am most early Saturday afternoons.
I hope it stays this way forever.

Tis my sixth last nite shift before I never have to do them again.
I was quivering and almost tearing the day i tendered my letter to my boss.
He said he was sad to see me go, and that reuters doesn't want to lose me.
I think it took all of my determination and grit to not retract and jus take back my letter.
I was sad and almost rooted the ground for the next half hour.
Sitting and thinking and just dazed and spaced out in the lobby.
Looking at people filing in for work.
I'd come in early at 8am on my off day just to submit the letter.

After that, i called dennis just to talk, even tho i knew i'd probably wake him up.
He's my best fren at work.
And sweet as he is, even tho i really did jolt him out of bed and even tho he gotta work later in the day, he came out to have brekkie with me and keep me company.
Frens like that really make my day.
But before that, i drove myself to church and had some me-time with God.
And He answered my prayers so soon.
Almost straight after, I knew i'd made the right choice.
I just know. Somehow, the rightness/wrongness of a decision will resonate deep within u.
And I knew I was right to leave.
It was a beautiful morning. With a good fren in tow.
We went window-shopping at Tangs, had brekkie at Coffee Bean and just had a good time together.
Dennis is really a sweet fren I'd miss much.
Of course i'll still see him now n then...but not as regularly as now for sure.

Anyway, I am brimming with lots of hopes n good vibes for my new mag.
What kinda stories I am gonna do, who my contacts will be... I love it.
Hopefully it will go all smooth.

By the way, tis my fave month of the year.
Its May.
I am gonna turn 25 soon.
Quarter-life awaits.

Hong Kong - Shop Eat Shop Eat Shop

Just back from HK.
There were loads of moments when i was there...
When i saw or felt someth i really wished i could write down there n then.
Except.... fate has it it was the super-rare trip i travelled without a notebook or camera in hand.
Well, i resorted to buying an instant camera....cos mine zonked out on me before i even landed.
But i forgot abt the notebook.

Here's the special moments in Hong Kong:

1. It is so condensed i wanna swat off people like they were houseflies.

2. I picked up and spoke more Cantonese in 4 days there than one year with terence's family.

3. I think his brother is really sweet to go with us and play tour guide. And be as patient n generous n accommodating n understanding as he is.

4. I wonder why Hong Kongers don't get fat. There is no avenue for sports at all. Oh well, there are those urban gyms n indoors sports halls...but gosh, not an inch of free space for sports/running watever. Incredible. People just eat and shop and work.

5. Of cos, as everyone knows, things ain't cheap in HK.

6. The food and the shopping is overrated. The sights and the weather though, should be touted more.

7. HongKongers... the same stoned n stressed faces as Singaporeans.

8. Travelling with terence is really very enjoyable. I don't have one worry in the world.

9. Before this trip, i almost forgot how one vacation overseas can rejuvenate n refresh ur perspectives. I feel so much alive now.

10. Terence really does love me a whole lot. I am one lucky girl.
